In the week leading up to the state football championship, I joking asked Jalen Brown to promise me that he really wasn’t going to basketball this year.

He didn’t promise but did reiterate he didn’t think he would.

As of Wednesday that changed when he returned to the hardwood. It really isn’t surprising after hearing the background behind the decision.

Mountain Pointe was just starting to put things together and had a setback when it became known two players were lost, possibly temporarily, because of grade problems.

It left a void and after an exchange of emails it became clear it was possible. Once Pride coach Aaron Windler talked to his two seniors captains – Khari Holloway and Trey Campbell – it all came together.

Brown, who is dealing with the flu, should see some time against Desert Vista on Friday and it willing to do whatever is needed.

“It is about the team,” Brown said. “These seniors only have so many games left and if I can help anyway I’ll do what I can.”

Read the Wednesday, Jan. 16 edition of the AFN for a full in-depth story.
