Just got word of what might be one of the greatest fundraising events for a high school sports team.

The Mountain Pointe baseball team his hosting ‘A evening with Clint Hurdle and Jay Bell.’

Hurdle is the manager of the recharged Pittsburgh Pirates and Bell, a former Diamondback, is the new bench coach for the Reds after leaving his post as the Pirates’ hitting coach.

The event, which is for 21 years and older, will be held January 18 at Ahwatukee Country Club from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.).

As a member of the media I’ve had a chance to see the way Hurdles handles the clubhouse a little bit and if that’s any indication of what the evening with the Pride is going to be like, it will be a blast.

He has a huge personality, says what’s he’s felling instead of using clichés and keeps things loose. It’s pretty much the opposite of most managers.

The cost is $60 per individual and $110 per couple with tickets available for purchase at and includes dinner and non-alcoholic beverages provided by Spinato’s. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

All proceeds, including auction items, go to the Mountain Pointe baseball program.

Hurdle and Bell have lived the life of pro baseball players and coaches since the 1980s and they will speak about their experiences and how they made it through to the other side.
