Jon Mora might get his shot on Thursday.
The former Mountain Pointe kicker is in line to be promoted to Arizona State’s top kicker for the Sun Devils game at Colorado on Thursday.
ASU coach Todd Graham has not been happy with Alex Garroutte, who is struggling for the second year in a row, and said on Tuesday that Mora would be his kicker if he had to decide that day.
“Right now I would tell you, if we kicked today, Mora would probably kick," Graham said following his team's Tuesday practice session.
Mora is a junior coming off a good year at Pima Community College as he was named first-team All-Western States Football League after he made nine field goals, including a 54-yarder. He made all but one of his 23 extra point attempts.
He missed his only attempt this season for ASU against Utah.
The decision wasn’t made as of Wednesday night but Garroutte, a Brophy product, has been struggling again this year after he had some big misses last season.
The sophomore has connected on six of 10 field goal attempts and all 24 of his extra point tries.
"I'll be real honest with you, we've got three guys I think that can do it," Graham said, which includes junior Dillon Jackson. "But we need one that makes them all the time."
