Mountain Pointe High was rocked to its foundation in January when news started to spread that former student-athlete and coach Sally Meyerhoff was killed in Maricopa while training.
It's a terrible incident and nothing will ever fill the void left by her death.
Meyerhoff was a unique personality and a tremendous role model.
Call it coincidence, karma or whatever it might be but Mountain Pointe athletes, current and former, have been making great news ever since.
Here is a quick look at some of the good fortune that has come the Pride way in recent weeks:
* Former track star Will Claye won a national title in the triple jump and finished second in the long jump for Florida at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.
* Former soccer star Spencer Thompson began his professional career by making the Portland Timbers of the MSL.
* Current baseball player Kevin Cron broke the career home run in Arizona with a two-home run game against Mesa Westwood.
* No less than eight current athletes made commitments recently to colleges at different levels to give them more than 20 overall scholarship athletes from this senior class.
Again nothing can ever replace the loss of a loved one, but there has been quite a bit of positive news coming from Knox Rd. of late.
