Dominique Fenstermacher hasn’t had it easy since coming over to the Mountain Pointe football program.

He had his tonsils taken out, missed time after having his energy zapped by mononucleosis and once he returned a hip injury forced him out of last week’s 7-on-7 tournament at Northern Arizona.

“It’s been difficult, but I am not all that worried about missing time now,” the incoming senior said. “I would have liked to been around more for spring, but as long as I am out there on Friday nights that’s all that matters.”

It might have made his transition to a new school, he came over from Marcos de Niza, difficult but he had plenty of friends on the team to make it easier.

Fenstermacher, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound cornerback, has known Pride quarterback Antonio Hinojosa since they were in kindergarten.

They played against each other when they were younger, were on the same team at Marcos for two years and are reunited for their senior years.

“We have been on the same field almost our whole lives so I know what he can do,” Hinojosa said. “It’s something.”

Division II quarterbacks found that out last season when he played cornerback for the first time after mostly seeing time on the offensive side of the ball in his first two years in the Padres’ lower levels.

Fenstermacher, who has four offers (Nevada, UNLV, New Mexico St., Nebraska) responded with six interceptions, a sack, a fumble recovery, two tackles for a loss and 43 tackles, including 23 solo.

It sounds like he will get a chance to do a little of both in certain packages with Mountain Pointe, but will be a mainstay at one of the corners for the Pride.

“It’s good to get reacquainted with offense again and my quarterback,” said Fenstermacher, who had one carry for four yards and three catches for 44 yards in four games for the Padres as a sophomore. “We will see how it goes.”
