Andy Lane is in the Sweet 16.

The Ahwatukee resident is in his third season as the Cubs’ bullpen catcher and he is making a run at winning the team’s 64-man bunting tournament.

The tournament, started when manager Dale Sveum took over as manager last year, is down to the final 16 and he is still alive for the $4,000 payoff.

Lane, who played at Desert Vista, Chandler and Grand Canyon before being drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 27th round of the 2005 draft, has always been a good bunter according to his dad.

The tournament is expected to pick up again on Sunday with mostly big league players left.

Brent Lillibridge vs Michael Brenly

Edwin Maysonet vs Andy Lane (bullpen catcher)
