When the Mountain Pointe boys golf team won the Ahwatukee Cup to open the season it was impressive.

The Pride topped state contenders like Desert Ridge and Desert Vista.

The only thing better would have been if the Pride came out on top with the early season favorite Brophy in the field.

The Broncos, the defending state champion, were not, but they did take on the Pride in a regular season match on Tuesday.

Same result.

The Pride won 149-152 at Ahwatukee Country Club to keep the early season success rolling.

The Pride were led by juniors Ben Harden and Johnny Campion, who shot even-par 36, while senior Austin Fletcher followed up with a 37.

Mountain Pointe plays Brophy this weekend at Grayhawk Golf Course, a much tougher test, in Scottsdale. If the Pride can win yet again, the sentiment that Brophy is the early season favorite might shift over to the Pride.
