Will Claye made his first visit to Arizona on Wednesday since becoming a household name during the Olympics.

The Mountain Pointe graduate threw out the first pitch at the Diamondbacks game and took some time to talk to Jeff Metcalfe of the Arizona Republic.

He said it has been a bit hectic since becoming the first American since 1904 to win two horizontal jump medals.

“Ever since the last day of the finals (Aug. 9), it’s been crazy,” Claye said. “Interviews, and I still had some more track meets I had to go to. Then trying to figure out everything back here at home. Just trying to take everything in and at the same time trying to get some work done. It’s been fun.”

Claye said he will enroll in Florida to finish his undergraduate degree.

“Getting the degree is really big,” he said. “I told my mother I would do it and told my coach this was priority before track. My degree will go way further than track will. I want to have that to fall back on.”
