All signs have pointed toward Kevin Cron honoring his commitment to Texas Christian and that is the case.

While the Mountain Pointe slugger didn't respond to a text near Monday's 9 p.m. deadline, Mountain Pointe baseball coach Brandon Buck said as of 3 p.m. Cron had not heard from the Seattle Mariners, who took him third in the MLB draft in June and that he was heading to TCU.

In talking to his mother at the family's draft party, it was pretty clear that she wanted her youngest son to head to college like C.J., who was taken 17th overall this year after a fantastic three-year career at Utah.

The elder Cron, however, was taken in the 44th round out of high school and didn't have much leverage. Kevin, after finishing the season as a state champion, Arizona's single season (27) and career (60) home run leader, could make a demand and stick with it.

Sources said it was going to take a seven-figure signing bonus to get Cron to forgo his commitment to TCU. The Mariners came close but after signing the second pick - Danny Hultzen, a left-hander pitcher from the University of Virginia - didn't come back with a last minute offer.

Cron won't be draft eligible again for three years per MLB rules once he steps on campus.
