Arizona State’s Anthony Robles fulfilled his dream Saturday by becoming the NCAA Division I 125-pound national champion.
Robles beat Iowa’s Brandon McDonough with a 7-1 victory to become the school’s first national champion since 2003.
Robles, a Mesa graduate who was born without a right leg, got the initial takedown and then used two tilts to build a 7-0 lead and it was enough to beat the Hawkeye defending national champion.
"I was real neverous, a dream come and I literally deamt about this a dozen times," Robles said in a TV interview. "I felt like I came too far to lose."
Teammate Bubba Jenkins, a senior transfer from Penn State, won the 157-pound title by pinning Penn State freshman David Taylor with a cradle.
