It will be sad to see the gentle South African go.
Mountain Pointe is losing one of its original faculty and coaches at the end of the school year as Fred Mann, a counselor and volleyball coach for the boys and girls programs, leaves after more than 20 years.
He is headed to Perry where he can coach his daughter the next three years and more importantly — as he put it — spend 10 minutes every morning together driving to the school.
When I was talking to him about the difficult decision he got emotional and wanted to make sure I expressed how grateful he is to everyone at Mountain Pointe.
He is too humble to realize it probably should be the other way around.
Mann seemingly brings a different approach than most, although I am sure there are times he does get heated, and it is clear the players respond to it to the tune of eight state titles.
I am not sure exactly how the Pride’s Hall of Fame voting works, but when the time comes he is a first-ballot pick.
