The little league all-star season is upon us.

The area Pony League have already had their state tournaments with two teams winning it all and one has made travel plans as the Pinto 8U Kid Pitch team advances to San Marcos, Calif., to play in the Western Region PONY World Series July 17-22.

The Ahwatukee Little League teams got started Thursday night and ALL came away with two victories as the 10-11 team and 11-12 squads opened up District 13 tournament play on positive notes.

I went by Tempe Sports Complex to get a feel for how the teams look this year and to see if the Majors team (11-12) can match the hype I’ve heard via e-mail.

One thing is for sure – they should definitely be able to reach their potential. I’ve seen shorter freshmen basketball teams. It seemed like each player in the starting nine was 5-foot-8.

The Majors team has the tie in with the Little League World Series and gets all of the attention,

It will be interesting to see if they have one of those magical runs that can completely engulf a community as it advances deeper on the path to Williamsport.
