The annual Nike Tournament of Champions is upon us.

It’s a great event and usually an even better test for local teams as some of the nation’s top girls basketball programs come to Chandler for the weekend.

This year is no different as the field of 83 teams is as strong as ever.

Here is a look at what Mountain Pointe and Desert Vista face in their brackets.

The Pride open up Thursday at 7 p.m. on at Chandler High against Chaminade College Prep of West Hills, Calif. The Eagles (5-1) are going to be a test for the Pride offense as Chaminade averages 12 steals and 32.5 rebounds a game.

Other teams in the John Anderson Division are Bellarmine Prep (Washington), Piedmont (California), Rock Canyon (Utah), St. Anthony (California), Viewmont (Utah) and Mesquite.

Mountain Pointe is in the same half-bracket as Bellarmine and Piedmont.

If the Pride (7-2) wins they play at 5:30 on Friday at Chandler, if they lose they tip off at 1 p.m. on Friday at Chandler. They play twice on Saturday.

The Thunder (9-0) are looking forward to the challenge after playing very few tight games (eight wins by at least 15 points) to this point.

Desert Vista opens White Division play on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Basha against E.S. St. Laurent. I believe it is a team from Manitoba, Canada, but not sure.

A win means the Thunder play at 1 p.m. on Friday at Basha, while a defeat means a 10 a.m. start on Friday at Basha. Desert Vista will then play two games on Saturday.

The other teams in the bracket are Vanden (California), Canyon Springs (California), Lynwood (California), Thunder Ridge (Colorado), Liberty (Nevada) and Dobson.

Desert Vista is in the same half-bracket as Vanden and Canyon Springs.
