Ron Passmore has changed his focus and it just might be a bright idea.

Passmore, the Ahwatukee Foothills grandpa who did his best to bring a baseball complex to the area, has put the ABC Project idea on hold and is now trying to bring some lights to an already existing field.

He recently sent an email to District 6 Councilman Sal DiCiccio in order to initiate conversation about bringing light standards to the baseball field at Ahwatukee Park, which is located at 47th Street and Warner Road.

Passmore claims he already has the blessing of the Homeowners Association in the area to allow lights in that neighborhood and that it would cost about $500,000.

The lights, obviously, would allow games to continue on instead of having to be called because of darkness. It is hard to believe a community such as ours doesn't have a single quality baseball field that accommodates games/practices after 6:45 p.m.

Passmore is passionate about getting the best possible conditions for Ahwatukee ballplayers and he made a lot of inroads with his first project before it came to a halt partly because of a missed paperwork deadline.

He will do all of the ground work and knock on every door in the neighborhood if that is what it takes to get the conversation started and headed toward an approval.

DiCiccio knows all about Passmore's persistence from the first go-around and knows he is not going to stop until something is done.

So DiCiccio, and anyone else Passmore decides to target, should consider it because the latter is not going to stop until Ahwatukee little leaguers are playing under the lights.
