  The phrase "gun show loophole" refers to the laws allowing all transfers of guns without background checks, not to only gun show sales. This writer confuses the "nickname" of the issue with the actual issue.

  Bad guys can easily get guns, legally, is the issue. And the NRA and other gun manufacturer lobbyists are working to keep it that way.

  And he isn't telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. He's waving something shiny to distract from the issue.

  He complains that the data is 20 years old, then uses that same data himself! The irony is awe inspiring!

  Because of laws enacted by politician's bought off by the gun manufacturing lobby, we do not have real statistics on gun ownership or sales. It is illegal for any federal money to study gun crime.

  Gun records used to verify background checks must be destroyed within 24 hours, by law, making it impossible for law enforcement to track straw buyers.

  What we do have is studies from Harvard and Duke showing no benefit to gun ownership. We know that states with lax gun laws have a higher ratio of gun crime.

  We know that in Arizona, you're more likely to die from a bullet than a car crash.

  And, finally, with typical Tea Party flare, Bill ends his fact-deficient editorial with an insult to Americans.

  We can think for ourselves, Bill. If you want to convince people of something, it's helpful not to call them stupid.

  The problem you have here is that when all the facts are presented by both sides, your side loses. Why else would the NRA fight against even looking into the problem?
