Blah blah blah. We know what assault weapons are for, but thanks for the lecture.
Let's talk about some real issues.
Because of laws put into place at the request of the NRA, law enforcement cannot keep a database of guns. So while we know a small percentage of gun dealers supply the majority of "legally" obtained guns to straw buyers, we can't easily do anything about it.
There are many similar laws, and there's the gun show loophole. Forty percent of gun sales do not require a background check.
So bad guys can easily buy a gun, legally. Straw buyers can stock up and send guns to Mexico all day long, or to the local gang, and we can't do anything about it, because the basic bit of evidence needed, information, is illegal for law enforcement to keep.
All thanks to laws passed by legislators owned by the NRA.
Wouldn't it be helpful to be able to shut down unscrupulous gun dealers, who put profit above responsible gun ownership and human life? Or make it harder for the bad guys to get a gun in the first place?
There are too many issues to cover in the comments section, but it would be nice to have someone from the "cold dead fingers" crowd address the real issues, and not with cherry picked data.
Nice try at muddying the waters, though.
