What will Phoenix look like in 2050?

Thanksgiving may be next week, but that won’t stop the city of Phoenix from continuing to work on updating the General Plan.

Last month, residents were asked what they value most in Phoenix.

On Monday, Nov. 23, they will be asked to look into the future and describe what they see in Phoenix, at its best, in 2050.

The sessions are designed to help city planners design a road map of how Phoenix will grow and develop into the future.

It’s also designed to get away from the traditional weighty documents that provide a blueprint for city growth and, instead, focus on the things that people feel are important.

That is also why the city is encouraging participation, especially from young people who will be raising families and enjoying careers in the city that the General Plan produces.

The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Pecos Park Community Center, immediately following the conclusion of the Ahwatukee Foothills Village Planning Committee’s meeting where they will elect a new chair and vice-chair for the coming year.

Last month, more than 30 people attended the General Plan meeting, where they told city staff that safety, employment opportunities, parks and open space and having a conveniently-located airport were valuable assets.
