The Surprise and El Mirage police departments are banding together Saturday to raise money to support the Special Olympics of Arizona.

Law enforcement personnel will be joined by McGruff the Crime Dog Saturday at Red Robin, 14015 W. Bell Road, during the “Tip a Cop” event.

“This is a great way for local police departments to help out with such a great and worthy cause,” said Officer Chris Tovar, Special Olympics coordinator for the Surprise Police Department.

Police are asking residents to attend and enjoy some food while helping to raise needed funding for children and teens faced with physical and mental disabilities and who enjoy competing in various athletic endeavors.

The El Mirage Police Department will participate from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Surprise Police Department will participate 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations are accepted at any time. For information, call Officer Chris Tovar of the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4287 or Officer Monica Rios of the El Mirage Police Department at 623-455-9536.
