Seventy-nine million Americans suffer from heart and blood vessel diseases, and yet, according to a new survey, 43 percent of respondents say they don't worry about their cholesterol.

That's why in honor of its 100 year anniversary, Mazola has partnered with WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease to create the "Set a Healthier Table" program encouraging Americans to take a pledge to set a healthier table as a way to manage their families' cholesterol.

For every pledge made at, Mazola is donating $1 to WomenHeart to encourage women to be screened for cholesterol and help fund heart disease education and patient advocacy programs. "The Next Food Network Star" finalist, celebrity chef and personal trainer Herb Mesa will be the first to make the pledge.

"I am proud to be the first person to take the pledge to set a healthier table," Mesa said.

A recently proposed health claim rule by the FDA suggests that including about 2 g of plant sterols per day helps reduce total and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, thereby lowering the risk of heart disease. And while 58 percent of Americans stated in a recent survey they believe corn oil is bad for you, corn oil is actually the cooking oil with the highest amount of plant sterols per serving.

Plant sterols can also be found in other oils, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, cereals and legumes. Including plant sterol containing foods as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol can have an important effect on health.

"The 'Set a Healthier Table' challenge asks Phoenix women to take an active role in their heart health by increasing the amount of plant sterols they add to their diet," said Terrance O'Donnell, Mazola brand manager. "We're asking people to visit, and, for every pledge made to set a healthier table, Mazola will donate $1 to WomenHeart."

WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease is the nation's only patient centered organization serving the 42 million American women living with or at risk for heart disease - the leading cause of death in women. WomenHeart is solely devoted to advancing women's heart health through advocacy, community education, and the nation's only patient support network for women living with heart disease. WomenHeart is both a coalition and a community of thousands of members nationwide, including women heart patients and their families, physicians, and health advocates, all committed to helping women live longer, healthier lives.
