The regular season meetings between Mountain Pointe and Desert Vista in soccer ended Tuesday night but what a treat the four matches were.

Desert Vista won the boys and girls matches in overtime to open the season in November.

The second go around was just as tightly contested.

The Desert Vista boys scored with just over 14 minutes left in the second half for a 1-0 victory at Mountain Pointe.

Over at Desert Vista, the Pride prevented the Thunder from taking all four matches with a 1-0 win and gave Desert Vista its second defeat of the year after opening the season 9-0.

Mountain Pointe's Kiley Kipper assisted Ashley Mutchek at the four-minute mark in the first overtime to improve to 4-1 in power point matches.

The Thunder boys improved to 6-2 overall when Cesar Sandoval's corner kick was put in the back of the net on Karsten Colin's header for the game winner to down the Pride (3-4).

"This was a good night for us," Thunder coach Mike Rabasca said. "We kept good possession and we had plenty of chances on goal. It would be a little bit nicer on the sidelines if maybe we finished them off instead of letting them hang around.

"Mountain Pointe is a dangerous team and it could easily become 1-1 and go into overtime, but, overall, we followed the game plan so I am pleased with that."
