From the heart of South America, Alturas brings to life the rich heritage of the Inca and Aymara cultures. The group has enchanted audiences throughout the western United States, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia for more than 30 years. Their costumes, instruments and vocals bring the sounds of South America to life. Andean instruments handmade from armadillo shells, llama skins and various hollow reeds make their concerts both authentic and entertaining.

Leading Alturas is multi-talented founder, Raúl Ayllón, a native of La Paz, Bolivia. Ayllón has mastered more than 40 musical instruments and is a master at native wind instruments like the Zampoña (South American pan pipe), the Quena (bamboo flute) and the Spanish guitar.

“Alturas continually adds to its repertoire of international music and is joyous in sharing their heritage,” said Julie Richard, president and CEO of the West Valley Arts Council. “This performance will open your eyes, ears and hearts to the richness and vitality of South American folk music.”

The Backyard Concert Series features nationally known artists and homegrown talent playing in the relaxed, outdoor atmosphere of the Marley Park community. Patrons must bring blankets and/or lawn chairs for lawn seating. No alcohol, glass containers or pets are allowed. Wine, beer and bottled water are available for purchase.
