Neighbors near Equestrian Trails are on alert after a burglary in the area nearly two weeks ago.
Neighbors noticed moving going on at a home that had been up for sale. Feeling that it was suspicious they called the police, said Officer Matt Giordano of the Phoenix Police.
When officers arrived they came in contact with two men, while two others made their escape. Police discovered the two men they had in custody were day laborers who had been hired to do some moving. The men were loading up a truck with items left in the house, not knowing that the items and the truck did not belong to the men who had hired them.
Police were able to locate the owner of the truck, who had no idea it had been stolen, at a local swap meet, said Giordano. The suspects were never located.
Giordano suggests keeping in touch with neighbors as the only way to protect your home when it's up for sale. "If we see someone moving and a for sale sign, we're not going to stop them," he said. "Neighbors in this case were ideal."
Make sure neighbors know your plans even after you move out especially if you're going to leave items in the home while you sell it, Giordano said.
