A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office volunteer posse member who was shot on New Year's Eve while trying to help a Phoenix police officer finally is getting out of the hospital.
Sheriff's officials say 63-year-old Philip Grigg is scheduled to walk out of the Scottsdale Osborne Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
Grigg was shot on Dec. 31 when he came to the aid of Phoenix police Officer Scott Sefranka, who had been pursuing two robbery suspects.
The suspects had reportedly made off with $18,000 but crashed their getaway car when Sefranka began the chase.
A fight ensued when Sefranka approached the suspects and one of them was able to grab the officer's gun and shot both Grigg and Sefranka.
Grigg was placed in a medically induced coma for several days in February.
