Popular downtown Gilbert Postino East WineCafe is set to welcome a new neighbor with some south of the border flair. Joyride Taco House is set to open June 3 on the north side of Postino’s Grainbelt building, and it will share some outdoor space with the wine bar.
Joyride is the newest addition to the restaurant family of Craig DeMarco and Lauren Bailey. DeMarco and Bailey have created a handful of restaurants in central Phoenix and Scottsdale, but Postino East and Joyride Taco House are their first East Valley ventures.
Inspired by traditional Mexican food and the street food scene in beach towns along the California coast, DeMarco and Bailey combined the casual surfer vibe and community atmosphere they experienced on their travels in crafting the concept for their new restaurant.
All of the duo’s food ventures can be found nestled into neighborhoods in order to build an intimate neighborhood locale. Kids and even dogs are welcome at Joyride, and the menu will feature plenty of shareable items.
Guests can order tacos filled with rotisserie meats and fresh seasonal ingredients. To drink, DeMarco and Bailey have crafted a line of aguas frescas, a traditional Mexican libation of fruit, sugar and water.
“(They can be made) with and without alcohol,” says DeMarco. “But, once you add the alcohol, they’re extremely cool and somewhat healthy with all natural ingredients, (and) all fresh fruit, herbs and spices.”
As for the space, diners will find natural light, booths for seating, a large center bar and two outdoor patios. DeMarco and Bailey also designed one-of-a-kind cement tiles for the restaurant that were then handmade in Mexico.
Price-wise, Joyride will stay in the same range as DeMarco and Bailey’s other restaurants, meaning meals should cost $10-$15 per person.
The two say they are looking forward to another chance to do business with the East Valley community and to bring some new flavors to the area.
“(Joyride) definitely adds a different concept,” says Bailey. “It’s a totally different design. The biggest element is that it’s just really fun. It’s got a really high energy.”
