A 1/15th scale model of the USS Phoenix was brought to the Akimel A-al Middle School campus as part of the 19th annual Patriotic Day. The real USS Phoenix could house 98 crew and 12 officers. It clocked in at over 361 feet long.
Patriotic Day at Akimel A-al Middle School has become a staple event for the Ahwatukee Foothills school. The sixth and seventh grade students watch the presentation each year with members of the community, including local veterans.
The 19th annual Patriotic Day took place at Akimel A-al Middle School on Wednesday. Veterans from World War 2, Vietnam and the more recent wars in the Middle East visited the school to listen to the presentation.
