Desert Vista senior Edmond Baker signed a letter of intent to continue his track career at Arizona State on Friday.

Baker's top event is the high jump and entering the Division I state meet on Wednesday he has the best effort in the state at 6 feet, 10 inches, set on March 26 at the Chandler Rotary Invitational.

He finished second in the state meet last year with a jump of 6-6.

C.J. Cron leading Utah baseball

Mountain Pointe graduate C.J. Cron continues to hit well for Utah as the regular season enters the final weeks.

The right-handed hitting catcher led the Utes (23-15) with a .448 average, 11 home runs and 49 RBIs in their first 38 games. He had more walks (21) than strikeouts (18) heading into last weekend's action.

He was named a 2010 All-American after hitting .431 with 20 home runs and 81 RBIs.

He led the NCAA in RBI per game (1.65), while ranking fifth nationally in slugging percentage (.817), eighth in home runs per game (0.41), 12th in RBI, 14th in batting average and 25th in home runs.

Cron, and his brother Kevin, a senior at Mountain Pointe, are expected to be taken high in the Major League Baseball draft in June.
