El Mirage officials didn’t exactly scream for the ice cream shop that opened in their community last week, but they were happy when the popular eatery opened its doors.

The El Mirage City Council and city staff welcomed Karen’s Kreamery Café to El Mirage during an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Karen’s Kreamery Café, formerly in Surprise, now serves customers in Gateway Park, 10100 N. El Mirage Road, between Peoria and Olive avenues.

“Any time a new business locates in El Mirage it is worth celebrating,” City Manager Spencer A. Isom said Friday during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Karen’s Kreamery Café will feature homemade ice cream along with panini sandwiches and other food and snack items.

“This ceremony represents the continued efforts of the City of El Mirage to provide more choices to our residents. It also represents the city’s ongoing efforts to maintain Gateway Park as a premier recreational park,” Isom said.

Mayor Lana Mook and five members of the El Mirage City Council attended the ceremony.

“We are so pleased to have Karen’s Kreamery open up in El Mirage,” Mook said. “I know our city staff has worked long and hard to help bring this project to fruition so this is a very good day for both El Mirage and Karen’s Kreamery Café.”

Council member Joe Ramirez added: “I’ve been a lifelong resident of El Mirage. For the first time ever, I can bring my family over here to enjoy the park and grab dessert. My kids are going to love it.”

Council member Jack Palladino lives down the street from the new store. “Now, instead of driving all the way to Surprise, I can drive down the street to grab a cup of coffee or some homemade ice cream. The more that business locates to El Mirage the more choices we have as residents and the stronger our local economy becomes.”
