With TV shows like AMC’s “The Walking Dead” starting up again Sunday, and students at ASU Polytechnic set to enact a zombie outbreak in a days-long game called Humans vs. Zombies, fascination with zombies is a pop culture phenomenon. If you can’t get enough, fear not: The zombie furor is alive — er, undead — and well in the Valley.

Thrill the World Zombie Dance

Zombie walk 3

What: More than 2,000 walking dead showed up for last year’s Zombie Walk, an hourlong leg-dragging, brain-sniffing, moaning and groaning shamble through downtown Phoenix. Led by the Arizona Ghostbusters, it starts and ends at a party hosted by The Downtown Phoenix Partnership and radio station X103.9. There, Zombie walkers — and run-of-the-mill Halloween revelers of all ages — will find live music, tarot card readers, Victorian house tours, train rides, bouncy houses, costume contests and more.

When: 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 29. Zombie lineup is at 5:30 p.m., walk is at 6 p.m.

Where: Historic Heritage Square, 113 N. Sixth St., Phoenix

Cost: A donation of canned food for St. Mary’s Food Bank gets you into the walk; bring extra, and on-site makeup artists will paint a zombie face for you

Information: (602) 495-1500

Teen zombie ball

What: Teens ages 13-18 are encouraged to don zombie-wear and “zom-prom” attire for this dance, where male and female winners will be selected for the best and worst costumes. There’s also a zombie walk, monster and movie trivia, food and drinks and a “Pin the Organ on the Zombie” contest.

When: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 26

Where: Southeast Regional Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road, Gilbert

Cost: Free
