Swimmers of all ages and abilities will test their strength and endurance April 16 and 17 when they take part in the fifth annual F.A.S.T. Foundation's Swim F.A.S.T. "Escape Your Limitations" event in San Francisco.

Participants can swim the 1.4-mile "Escape from the Rock," which takes them from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco's Aquatic Park inlet; the 1.2 mile "Crossing the Great Gate" swim along the Golden Gate Bridge or both.

Funds raised go to support foundation programs, including Water Safety for Refugees, working with refugee children to teach basic water survival skills, and FAST Talkers, an educational outreach program of swimmers who have participated in the Swim F.A.S.T. swims, who go into Pre-K through second grade classrooms.

Area swimmers who want to take part in the swim but lack experience, the foundation offers training and tips. Several open water events will take place at Bartlett Lake, with the initial swim slated for Saturday, Nov. 27.
