The Webb Center is presenting an array of male pianists during the 2011-2012 season, titled the “Piano Men Series.”

Featuring five well-known pianists in four performances, the series will include the musical stylings of Broadway, classical, blues, jazz, standards, and contemporary music.

In December, the legendary Marvin Hamlisch will perform his most unforgettable scores from the stage to the cinema:  “A Chorus Line,” “The Sting,” “Sophie’s Choice” and “The Way We Were.” The composer is one of only two people to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony and Pulitzer Prize; he also has won two Golden Globe awards.

Hamlisch will be accompanied by Broadway tenor J. Mark McVey, a Helen Hayes Award-winning actor-singer who made his Broadway debut as Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables” for more than 2,900 performances.  The afternoon concert benefiting the Webb Center will showcase Hamlisch’s enduring music and humor.

January highlights pianists with charisma and charm: Julliard-trained Alpin Hong inspires audiences with classical music that pairs remarkable technique with boundless energy, humor and joy.

The Michael Kaeshammer Trio will display exhilarating piano and vocal virtuosity through a blend of blues, jazz, soul, pop and standards. A singer-songwriter and piano player, Kaeshammer has an ability to create a brand of pop-tinged jazz in a live performance.

David Benoit returns to the Webb Center stage in March, teaming up with chart-topping keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist Brian Culbertson for their collaborative show “Piano2Piano.” Combining their styles of modern jazz and contemporary music, the musicians will perform some of their best-known compositions along with original music on dueling Steinway grand pianos.

Tickets are on sale to members of the support organization, the Encore Society. Membership begins at $50 and permits early ticket-buying opportunities before tickets go sale to the public.

Call the Webb Center’s Box Office at 928-684-6624 to become a member and reserve seats, or visit www.delewebbcenter.org for a full schedule of events, information on artists, and to watch video previews.
