Your next dinner out could support academic excellence at a Gilbert high school. The fifth annual Taste of Higley is slated for 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the cafeteria at Higley High School, 4068 E. Pecos Road.

Sponsored by the school’s Academic Booster Club, it helps raise funds for scholarships and awards and recognition for students and teachers.

“We’re going to have food vendors from around the area who will be giving out tastes of their food items,” says Jaqie Gardner, the club’s faculty liaison.

Among the restaurants scheduled to attend are Cantina Laredo, Apple Dumpling Cafe and Baci Italian Bistro.

The evening includes a chicken wing-eating contest sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings, live entertainment by choir, band and drama students, and a silent auction with gift cards, merchandise and reserved seating and parking at the school’s 2014 gradution ceremony up for grabs.

Admission is free. Tickets, good for food items, are 12 for $10 or $1 per ticket. For information, call (480) 279-7316.
