Books are doorways to adventure, trusted guides, and intimate friends — and there’s no better time to enjoy them than the blazing days of summer, especially if you’re an East Valley kid in need of air-conditioned entertainment.

Get lots of great ideas at Changing Hands Bookstore’s celebration of Children’s Book Week, going on May 10-17.

Events range from a Food Allergy Awareness Storytime (10 a.m. Saturday, May 10) to an author chat with the writer behind “Lego Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary” at 6 p.m. Monday, May 12. That event also includes a triva contest, a “Master Jedi” brick-building station, and an appearance from the Stormtroopers of the 501st Rebel Legion.

Other activities targeted to teens and tweens are sprinkled throughout the week. Information is available at (480) 730-0205 or ChangingHands.com.
