A group of community members has already made a long-lasting and positive impact on the people of a small Honduran village. But they know their work isn't finished.

Twenty-seven people in collaboration with Mountain Park Community Church (MPCC) will be flying down and returning to El Progresso, Honduras at the end of February to complete several planned community projects. Leading up to that event, they will be hosting two fundraisers to purchase supplies once they get there.

Greg Battle, Pastor of Sports & Facilities at MPCC, will be making his ninth trip. He said they have plans to finish building a house for the pastor of MPCC's sister church, Brazos Abiertos in El Progresso. They will also be renovating and adding new classrooms to the headquarters of the Compassion International, an organization that provides education for children in poor countries worldwide.

For the people in the community, Battle said they will be putting in window screens for many families.

"Most homes have no screens over their windows," he said. "They will leave them open and bugs will fly inside. Having a screen to keep them out will be a huge improvement."

Battle said they do not pick the projects at random. They are told by the Honduran people what is most needed and they do what they can to make it happen.

"We are at their service," he said. "One of the first thing they needed was a fresh water source so we went as far as we could up the mountain where El Progresso is located and tapped a water source that now takes enough fresh water for the whole community."

On Saturday, Nov. 5 MPCC, 2408 E Pecos Road, is hosting their Honduras Holiday Boutique which is open to all community members. Then on Nov. 12, they will be hosting a golf tournament at Club West with proceeds benefitting the projects in Honduras.
