MADCAP Theaters is seeking $40,000 in donations for air conditioning repairs that are needed to keep the venue open.
The Downtown Tempe Community has made minor repairs since opening the nonprofit facility in 2009, but the organization must perform more significant work to ensure all parts of the 16-year-old facility stay comfortable. DTC spokeswoman Elizabeth Carless said operations haven’t been affected yet but that the theaters cannot remain open indefinitely without the repairs.
The 16-year old building that once housed a Harkins Theatres location has more than 50,000 square feet, six auditoriums, two lobbies and two floors. The venue attracts about 75,000 patrons a year.
