Local performers get in ‘Spirit of Christmas’ for 24th annual show

Longing for a good old-fashioned community Christmas pageant? Check out “The Spirit of Christmas,” a holiday variety show put on by longtime East Valley dance company Tempe Dance Academy and its Christian Dance Company.

About 100 performers participate in the 24th annual show, playing toy soldiers, dancing confections and other characters who sing and dance amid snowy village scenes, twinkly Christmas trees and even a live horse pulling a carriage.

The second act of the show becomes more tranquil, with Santa Claus making way for the Nativity and songs like “Oh Holy Night.”

The show’s dancers come from all different faiths, but there is an emphasis on the Christian meaning of the holiday. This weekend’s shows are emceed by Miss Arizona Jennifer Sedler; next weekend’s by local musician Tom Booth. Proceeds benefit the Child Crisis Center.
