Police say a 25-year-old Chandler man shot a 36-year-old Phoenix man inside the store. photo

Authorities said one man is claiming self-defense as his reason for shooting another man inside a Chandler Walmart.

Joseph Favazzo, spokesman for the Chandler Police Department, said the fight occurred Saturday at 4:08 p.m. at the service counter inside the Walmart near Alma School and Warner roads.

A 25-year-old man and a 36-year-old man got into a verbal argument that quickly turned physical, said police.

The 25-year-old was losing the fight and pulled out his gun because he "was in fear for his life," he reportedly told police.

The victim, identified as Kriston Charles Belinte Chee, was shot and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Favazzo.

Favazzo said it appears the two individuals did not know each other.

Chandler police are continuing to investigate and will be submitted the case to the Maricopa County Attorneys Office for review.

No one has been arrested in connection to the shooting pending review by the Attorneys office, he said.
