A 32-year-old man police say kidnapped his live-in girlfriend late Tuesday and threatened to kill her was arrested about an hour after she was forced into a car and driven around town as she begged for her life.
Salvador Ortiz Reyes was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, threatening and intimidating and theft about 1 a.m. Wednesday after police responded to a report of a kidnapping in the 500 block of East Ray Road and sent out a description of his gold Dodge car to law enforcement agencies throughout the state.
About an hour after the kidnapping, an officer noticed the car driving by his patrol area and heard screaming from inside. The officer was able to make a traffic stop on the car and apprehend Reyes. The woman was treated by paramedics for nonlife-threatening injuries. Reyes was booked into a Maricopa County jail.
Police say at one point during the time he had the woman in the car, Reyes pulled over and made her get out of the car as she got on her knees, begging him not to kill her.
