The U.S. Marine Corps is having a birthday in November, and some local Marines are gathering in Sun Lakes next month for a ball and fundraiser. The 236th Annual U.S. Marine Corps Birthday Ball will commemorate the Corps’s Nov. 10, 1775, establishment by the Continental Congress.
The ball is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 5, presented by the East Valley Marines, Detachment 1296. The ball is the detachment’s major fundraiser. Past projects have included assistance to musical therapy programs, wheelchair needs, homeless veterans, funds for wounded Marines to fly home and a home for women veterans.
The ball includes a formal dinner, the oldest veteran in attendance cutting a birthday cake and an address by Brig. Gen. Mark Wise.
The ball will be held at the Oakwood Country Club, 24218 S. Oakwood Blvd. To donate or to purchase tickets at $45 each, go to www.eastvalleymarines.org or call (480) 250-0984.
