Under legislation passed recently, new fees are being proposed for the state Department of Health Services’ Office of Vital Records, which provides birth and death certificates.

The fees will be used to make the department self-sufficient, since it will no longer receive state general funds. The increased fees are set to go into effect July 1.

Under the structure, the total cost to get certified birth and death certificates will be $20. It will cost $30 to amend a certificate.

A public hearing on the fee structure will be held 9:30 a.m. June 23 at 1740 W. Adams St., Phoenix.
