LEGOLAND California is partnering with Arizona Science Center to bring a touch of the Star Wars Miniland to Phoenix.

Through a Junior Master Model Builder competition based on the new area in the Carlsbad, Calif.-based theme park, creative guests are challenged to build their own Star Wars Miniland-themed LEGO model — with the chance to win one of three VIP prize packages.

The competition is judged in three age categories: 9 and younger; 10 to 15; and 16 and older. Guests of Arizona Science Center are invited to build between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., with a winner from each category announced at 3 p.m. June 5.

The contest will be judged by a Master Model Builder from LEGOLAND California, and all winners will receive a prize package including LEGO play materials; two-day Resort Hopper tickets to LEGOLAND California, LEGOLAND Water Park and SEA LIFE Carlsbad Aquarium; one-night accommodations at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa; and an invitation to participate in The Ultimate Build-Off at LEGOLAND in January.

Builders who want to get an edge on the competition can watch special screenings of the 2010 LEGO Star Wars mini-film, “Bombad Bounty” and the new 2011 LEGO Star Wars “May the 4th“ stop animation short film throughout the day. Visit for details.

Arizona Science Center is in historic Heritage Square at 600 E. Washington St., downtown Phoenix.

Besides competing for bragging rights and VIP prize packages, guests of Arizona Science Center June 4 and 5 will also have the opportunity to meet Master Model Builder Ryan Ziegelbauer and learn some of the tips and tricks that landed him his role. Guests that weekend also can pose for photos with a life-sized LEGO Darth Vader model and other “Star Wars” themed LEGO models on display.

In Star Wars Miniland, guests experience scenes from the six live-action “Star Wars” movies, plus one from the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” all made of 1.5 million LEGO bricks in a 1:20 scale.

During the building event at Arizona Science Center, all LEGO bricks, base plates and build space will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. For contest rules and details, visit
