Mike Ingrassia finally found a comfort level.

After a breakout senior season in football, the Desert Vista speedster was hoping to play football at the next level.

It appeared he was heading to Princeton to do just that, but it didn't prove to be cost effective.

So he got frustrated and searched out scholarship possibilities in track.

After visiting Arkansas, thinking about Arizona, Ingrassia finally settled on attending Arizona State on a track scholarship and walking on to the football team.

"It's great just to have it figured out," he said before Tuesday's track practice. "I thought something from football would materialize but it never did so I had to figure some things out."

The former state champion in the 300 hurdles missed his most of his junior track season because of bad hamstring so he was unable to defend the title he won as a sophomore.

Fully healed, he became a big-play wide receiver doing most of his damage on the fly sweep as he gained more than 1,900 yards from scrimmage and scored 11 touchdowns as the Thunder made a surprise trip to the state semifinals.

Ingrassia will enter summer school at ASU to get a jump on his start in the classroom and with the team.

"I can't wait to get a chance," he said. "I know I can help the team in some way."
