Sometimes, nothing hits the spot like brinner — breakfast for dinner.

Satisfying, easy to scare up with staple ingredients and quick when you need to get something on the table in a hurry, it’s a go-to meal for many households — the ultimate in casual, family-pleasing cuisine.

But this time, you can let someone else deal with the pancake-and-syrup mess. PJ’s & Eggs begins at 5 p.m. Friday.

It’s when breakfast and lunch restaurants open at night, serving runny eggs, sizzling sausage, sugar-dusted French toast and jam-slathered English muffins to patrons in their pajamas.

Organized by Arizona egg farm Hickman’s Family Farms, the event benefits Arizona’s Children Association. Diners are asked to bring a pair of new children’s pajamas to the restaurant to be donated to kids in AzCA’s statewide foster care programs.

In return, customers get a certificate for a dozen free Hickman’s eggs, redeemable anywhere Hickman’s eggs are sold. They’ll also be entered to win gift certificates from participating restaurants.

Among East Valley eateries serving up breakfast for dinner is U.S. Egg in Chandler, where limited-time pumpkin waffles and pancakes are on the menu.

Dressing in your PJs is optional.
