A Chandler couple is facing a murder charge in connection to the death of the woman’s 3-year-old daughter.
Dauntorian Sanders, 23, and Susan Witbracht, 26, each were charged with first-degree murder and four other counts of child-abuse-related offenses on Wednesday in connection to the Aug. 31 death of Schala Vera, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Police responded to their home about 2:50 p.m. Monday when the child was unresponsive, and the child was pronounced dead about two hours later at Gilbert Mercy Medical Center, according to police.
Witbracht admitted to witnessing Sanders hit the child several times with a belt and watched him drop her to the floor, according to the court documents. Police said the girl had bruises and belt marks on her body.
