  Of course all BASIS students passed the AIMS test. BASIS cherry-picks their students by way of the curriculum. They claim that all hard-working students are welcome. However, I have yet to hear about how this school services students with IEPs, or autism, or learning disabilities. These students are also hard-working, but it would be clear in an instant that BASIS is not the place for them. These students don't always perform well on AIMS and would bring BASIS' scores down. The media and government look at BASIS as some great new model for education, but refuse to look behind the smoke and mirrors. It would be nice if BASIS would actually admit that while they are a very good school for a specific type of student, they are not the ideal model for the masses and their program is designed to keep them out while allowing only the "best" in (to ace AIMS). The reason BASIS does so well is because of the students it caters to. They will never tell you that they cater to upper class (non-disabled) intellectuals. You will find that out on your own when your child needs an IEP or special services and it's not provided. Why don't we look at schools that service the general population or populations in need and see what THEY are doing to make those students successful? The students BASIS services are provided with a life that already guarantees success. Wouldn't it be great to see what other schools are doing to make students successful who would otherwise be left behind?
