Best known internationally for his performance in the FOX series “House,” the Golden Globe-nominated actor Hugh Laurie — who’s also an accomplished musician — will perform June 3 at Mesa Arts Center with the Copper Bottom Band.

Although he’s played piano since childhood, Laurie is better known for his work in film and television, starring in “101 Dalmatians,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Stuart Little,” and as the protagonist in the medical detective series “House.” He is slated to appear opposite George Clooney in the high-profile science-fiction film “Tomorrowland,” due for release in 2015.

A predominantly self-taught musician, Laurie also sings and plays harmonica, guitar, drums and saxophone.

His musical career includes the production of the 2011 New Orleans Blues album “Let Them Talk,” followed by a second album, “Didn’t It Rain,” in May 2013.

“I have resolved to forge on, deeper into the forest of American music that has enchanted me since I was a small boy,” says Laurie, an Englishman. “The further I go, the more bewitched I become — both by the songs and by the people I have been lucky enough to play them with.”

On his sophomore album, Laurie leaves behind the sounds of New Orleans to follow the trajectory of the blues upstream and into the American heartland, with blues, tango, Southern and South American music influences.
