Just a few final observations from the latest Ahwatukee Bowl.....

Whenever you have to have 12 police officers on hand as Thursday's game at Karl Kiefer field had, you know you have a real rivalry. ....

Mountain Pointe junior lineman RJ Hollis made his first big play as a member of the Pride, stopping Desert Vista running back Dominic Kereluk for a loss. He began the season with DV and transferred to MP. He sat out the mandatory 10 days before getting some action in games.

"There is a part of me on both sides of this," he said. "It was great making that play and helping us get the win." ...

MP's Isaac Kartz made some great cuts in the hole to get away from defenders. He has some quick feet and when he plants he really takes off. ....

MP's Izzy Marshall is a beast. He seems to be getting better after each play. He admitted made the wrong read on DV's final offensive play, but was saved when Martin Moriel got the pick.

"Just like family, he was there to get my back," Marshall said. ....

DV is playing well and the team hasn't had the services of top running back and linebacker Mike Arredondo because of knee injury. It also missed senior captain Sean Coffinger at DE and TE for the first time, also with a knee. ....

The Thunder did the pre-game walk through at its own field before coming over for the game.

"We've done that since I have been the head coach," Dan Hinds said. "It's not a big deal. It's quieter and gives us a chance to get ready without all of the extra stuff around us." ....

There is something very cool about seeing Kiefer still on the sidelines, watching over the program he built, and seeing Vaughan he restored it, shake his hand. ...
