This weekend was warm enough that locals seemed to collectively change their wardrobes from light layers to tank tops, shorts and other summer staples. If you cringe at the thought of your right to bare arms, then it’s time to take the Tough Lotus Challenge.

Tough Lotus is an aerial yoga studio in Chandler, located at Dobson and Elliot roads (close to Fibber Magees, for my pub loving friends — because I like my yoga studios as close to my cocktails as possible).

Using a fabric hammock as a tool to achieve traditional yoga positions, students are supported by a soft, secure trapeze. Practices are developed for all experience levels, and no previous aerial, acrobatic or yoga experience is necessary.

The studio’s $56 Tough Lotus Challenge is a workout that tones, flexes and strengthens muscles while decompressing the spine. Participants swing from the ceiling, having fun while learning something new and feeling amazing.

Marnie Valliere, creator of Tough Lotus, explains.

“The Challenge will start on May 7 at 6:30 p.m. and continue every Tuesday until May 28. It’s a progressive course that will focus on building functional strength,” she says. “The Challenge will consist of strength movements using principals of inversion and suspension to dynamically train the body. Each participant will receive a Challenge score at the end of the course, which measures individual improvement during the four-week time frame. Come prepared to sweat!”

Tough Lotus is at 3050 N. Dobson Road, Suite 2. For information, call (480) 287-0026 or visit
