The inaugural Sally Meyerhoff 5K is Saturday at Kiwanis Park in memory of the Mountain Pointe athlete and coach who was killed in March while training on her bike in Maricopa when she was hit by a vehicle.

The event starts at 8 a.m., with registration packets available Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Road Runner Sports in Tempe Marketplace, and from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at Kiwanis Park.Everyone is invited to stay a very long time and set aside the morning to honor Meyerhoff. There will be a multitude of giveaways, awards, prizes, and an exchange of stories about Meyerhoff.

There will also be an after party at Toby Keith's Bar and Grill at Mesa Riverview. It's a night to celebrate the success of the run and, of course, Meyerhoff. Wear your Sally bracelet to get in free. It starts at 7 p.m.
