A Sun City West man has won Early Bird Prize No. 1 in the Spring 2011 Health & Wealth Raffle, which supports St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Barrow Neurological Institute.

Harry Lobdell said he was still in shock after learning he had won the $50,000 prize.

“I’ve entered each raffle with a three-pack, and I won a couple little trinkets but nothing this big,” Lobdell said. “I don’t think I’ll believe it until I see the actual check in my hand.”

While he’s never been treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital or Barrow Neurological Institute, Lobdell enters the Health & Wealth Raffle to support the institutions because of the important work they do for the community.

“I’ve read about St. Joseph’s and Barrow, and I think they do a marvelous job there,” said Lobdell. “Arizona needs organizations like that.”

Another West Valley resident, Elizabeth Ann VanKerkwyk of Litchfield Park won Early Bird Prize No. 2, which includes a 12-night Inca Coast cruise for two plus $10,000.

The Early Bird prizes are the first of more than 4,600 prizes that will be awarded in the raffle. The deadline is midnight tonight.

The raffle has two top prizes of a T.W. Lewis home, 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe and cash. Or the winner may choose to take the Cadillac CTS Coupe and $600,000. The other  top prize is a 2011 Porsche Panamera plus $65,000. Or the winner may choose the cash option of $150,000.

The final draw will take place Thursday, April 7.
