In today's society of rushing, multi-tasking and high stress, our communities have become less healthy and more inactive.

The pressures of the day, week and month have taken priority over good self-care and healthy life balance. The rate of over-indulgence in unhealthy behaviors and activities has steadily increased over the last two decades. This has led to an increase rate of physical and emotional health issues.

Habits such as eating quick meals, or sometimes no meals at all, or not making that stop at the gym before going home from work or school have led us to our current state.

As I speak with clients, I hear two concerns repeatedly; there is no time to take care of myself and everyone else is priority over what I feel I would like to, or need to, do for myself.

Time for self can be tricky, it might be helpful to write out your schedule, see where you can make changes, remove habits and activities that may not serve you. Adding even 15 minutes is a good start!

As for priorities, we seem to fall further down our own list day by day. Remember, taking care of yourself allows you to be your best for others and sets a good example.

Here are seven healthy habits that can help you to live more fully:

1. Take the time to eat healthy meals: Prep and plan meals and snacks ahead of time.

2. Start some form of physical exercise, start slow.

3. Avoid failure by setting realistic goals. If you look at the goal and know it's not possible or your hearts not in it, then it's not a good goal.

4. Build in accountability; write done your goals and plans or tell another person what you plan to do.

5. Be specific, set starting dates, frequency and other details.

6. Do the basics: Eat, sleep and exercise and use your support system, this is your foundation for all other goals.

7. Be present in your relationships, set appointments with others and yourself.
